Alappuzha is a city of Kerala which is also referred to as ‘the Venice of the East’. The city is famous for boat racing, beaches, backwater holidays, coir industry and marine products. Houseboat cruise is another attraction in Alappuzha which is an updated version of ancient Kettuvallams where ‘Kettu’ means house and ‘Vallom’ means boat. In ancient times, kettuvallam was used to carry rice and spices attached with a thatched roof and covered with wooden hulls. Lately, houseboats have developed and equipped with spacious and comfortable hotel rooms which include a balcony, modern toilets, cozy living rooms, and kitchen. Alappuzha district mostly has nice weather due to its nearness to the ocean. The temperature hardly reaches to 35 degrees Celsius and never goes down to 20 degrees. The best time to visit here is from September to March. During the monsoon period (June to August) heavy wind and rain come there which also a great time to visit the district.
